Carpet Cleaners Should Clean Carpet Water damage company's should do water damage

Yesterday I just came from a water damage in Baltimore Maryland that again really has me disturbed. I received a call from a property management company that a fire was started in a kitchen and the fire department put out the fire with many gallons of water.

Now the fire department didn’t upset me as much as I found out that the management company called a carpet cleaner to suck up the water and “ dry out the location”.

The carpet cleaner reassured the management company that all that was needed was to extract the water and remove the carpet. They put in one air blower for a two bedroom apartment. No other equipment was needed so the carpet cleaner told the management company.

The manager concerned about mold, called me SI Restoration ( that’s us ) and asked if I would just check to see if the work was done correctly.

When entered the room I pulled out my IICRC required moisture meters to test the carpet and walls. I also tested the humidity and temperature to get the grains per pound in the air.

I wasn’t surprised to see wet carpet and wet walls. The temperature reading over 80 alarmed that this was a great situation for mold growth.

I quickly called the property manager to get permission to bring more air fans and commercial dehumidifiers and open the walls by removing just the wall base.

I told the management company that is usually takes three days to dry .

Well let’s see what happens , and I will inform of the outcome in three days.

Meanwhile let me state that they are many carpet cleaners who are very qualified to do water damage restoration in Baltimore Maryland.

The question is do they keep up with all the latest standards and correct procedures and are they IICRC certified.

Ask for the IICRC card
