Flooded basements

For those who are following this blog I apologize for the long wait. In Baltimore it has rained for 7 days and we have excused the punn flooded with water damage restoration calls.

We get calls from all types of property management companies and the water damage calls from homeowners are usually from flooded basements.

Our property management customers have actually been calling for busted pipes and toilet over flows, very strange for this time of year.

For those who have had a water damage here are some tips.

1. Don’t put down newspaper on the carpet to soak up the water. News paper will stain the carpet and you will be reading last weeks news for many years.
2. You can rent fans your self to dry the carpet, but many consumers and property managers do not own a moisture sensor, The moisture sensor detects moisture in areas you would not think to look or assume by touch were dry.

3. Your residential dehumidifier is great for controlling the comfort of your basement but is not designed to take the amount of moisture that the water damage has brought in, Yes eventually your dehumidifier will take out the moisture, but the time it does, you will have possible mold growth.
