" 3 Tips On What To Do When You First Have A Water Damage"
1. GET THE FURNITURE OFF THE FLOOR!- Once you have contacted your emergency water damage clean up company, you may want to start to raise all furniture off the floor on to blocks ( wood, Styrofoam ) to prevent mold growth and odor. It will also prevent further damage to the furniture. You should assume all furniture to be any items that sits on the floor.
2. EXAMINE ALL WET BOXES- Whether you have a water damage in a home or business, almost everyone has boxes of items that get soaked in a water damage. Make sure that you take all the items out of the box(s) and separate the boxed items for drying analysis. Remember to search for all wet boxes. You'd be surprised where they hide.
3. TEST, TEST, TEST- Getting a bunch of air movers and dehumidifiers and " distributing " them around the wet areas doesn't completely solve the drying problem. Remember that inside drywall cavities and underneath glue downed carpet are still wet after a water damage.
So how do you know if it's dry inside the wall cavities and underneath the carpet ? Use moisture detection equipment to discover hidden pockets of moisture that can cause mold issues. Then dry those areas to prevent mold growth.
Don't have moisture detection equipment, contact your local water damage restoration company for advise!!
