Blood Cleanup And Blood and Body Fluid Removal

Introduction

Suicides, accidents, crimes or any type of traumatic event can leave blood and body fluids in carpet, walls, furniture, etc. . If the blood is not cleanup up immediately, the blood will begin to spread and will be absorbed by porous materials, such as concrete, asphalt, drywall, carpet, sub floor, grout, studs and floor joists.

Blood And Body Fluid Clean Up

Since blood travels in much the same manner as water does, a casual inspection of the scene will not reveal all traces of the blood. This is where ABRA certified technicians can help.

Crime scene cleanup, blood cleanup, body fluid clean up,suicide clean up needs a detailed and careful cleaning procedure to remove and clean up blood, bodily fluids, tissue & bone matter, contaminated clothing and household goods, hypodermic needles, razor blades and other items that may pose a risk of injury or death.

SI Restoration technicians are ABRA trained and certified and SI Restoration is a proud member of ABRA ( American Biorecovery Association)

Cleaning Blood and Body Fluid Contamination Your Self ?

You can clean up blood and blood stained mattresses, sheets, carpet, flooring, walls yourself but please be aware of the issues that you may face.

1. Government agency OSHA Blood Borne Regulation 29.100.

It states that no employee should handle blood or blood effected materials without proper training and use of personal protective equipment (Please refer to the actual regulation for additional information.

Unless you have a regular training ( following the OSHA 29.100 regulation ) and follow the regulation strictly should you let any employee near blood or blood affected materials.

2. HIV, hepatitis and other diseases.

It is well known that many of the most contagious and deadly diseases are contracted by blood. Unless you are willing to take the chance or highly trained, you are taking the chance of contracting these diseases.

3. Transporting blood and blood stained items.

You should check your state if it is legal to carry blood effected items by vehicle. Maryland has strict laws about carrying biohazard items and you must have licensed to do so.

4. Disposing of blood contained items

Just dumping your effected items in the trash or dumpster is not only illegal in most states ( it is illegal in Maryland ), but many strangers will jump into dumpsters and look for " valuable" items. Not only will you be liable if these strangers get hurt, but if they contract a disease while inside your dumpster this will make it worse.

Homeowners: Throwing away blood effected items in your trash can , can put you in the same situation.

5. Documentation:

The government requires that all biohazard materials ( blood ) must be documented and signed that it was disposed at an official disposal site that takes biohazard materials.

You must have the documentation that proves this for at least 30 years or you can be responsible for any issues even if someone else disposed the items for you.

Crime scene clean up or biohazard clean up as it is professionally described, is the process of removing blood and body fluids following federal and state laws as well as blood borne OSHA regulations at the same time.

Many years ago, diseases such as HIV, hepatitis, and other deadly diseases were not issues of concern. Unless the it was a bloody crime scene that cover a great area with body fluids and brain matter ( many are ), then many occupants of homes and businesses just cleaned it up. Many businesses and organizations just had their cleaning staff clean up crime scene's.

These days with many deadly diseases known, only certified experienced professionals can clean up after a crime scene situation involving blood and body fluids.

Once removed, a body leaves behind both visual and microscopic traces that can prove harmful to those who may come into contact with them. Although the appearance of blood, bodily fluids and tissue warrants a thorough cleaning effort, it requires much more than simply wiping it up. This is where our crime scene cleanup technicians can help.

Crime scene cleanup involves a detailed procedure to detect, disinfect and completely remove all traces of bio-hazardous materials, to include but not limited to: blood, bodily fluids, tissue & bone matter, contaminated clothing and household goods, hypodermic needles, razor blades and other items that may pose a risk of injury or death. Although a visual inspection of a crime scene or a suicide scene may reveal a great deal of blood and bodily fluids about the area, an equal amount will be found by our technicians in areas that cannot be seen or easily accessed. It is vital that all traces of these elements be removed from a scene, whether a crime has been committed or not.

Technicians with SI Restoration have received extensive training in crime scene cleanup, trauma scene cleanup, blood cleanup and in the use of various chemicals. Our technicians have been certified and tested through ABRA and have had at least 5 years of field experience.
