The following are questions and answers to most homeowners and property managers in concerned with air duct cleaning.

1. What is air duct cleaning?
2. What is the best method
3. How long should it take?
4. What is the normal price for air duct cleaning?
5. How do I choose the right air duct cleaning company?
6. How do I know that the ducts were cleaned and cleaned correctly by my air duct cleaning?

What is Air Duct Cleaning?

Although you may get different answers, you should follow the National Air Duct Cleaning Association ( NADCA ) definition.

Please read the following from NADCA explaining correct air duct cleaning procedures:

“The most effective way to clean air ducts and ventilation systems is to employ Source Removal methods of cleaning. This requires a contractor to place the system under negative pressure, through the use of a specialized, powerful vacuum. While the vacuum draws air through the system, devices are inserted into the ducts to dislodge any debris that might be stuck to interior surfaces. The debris can then travel down the ducts to the vacuum, which removes it from the system and the home.”
To put it in layman’s terms, the duct cleaner uses a powerful air compressor with special tools to dislodge and dirt and debris and then uses a powerful vacuum to remove the debris.

Please be aware that many companies charge very low prices using leaf blowers and air compressors only to perform
air duct cleaning.

What is the best method to perform air duct cleaning ?

NADCA recommends:

1. Truck mount vacuum collection device
2. Portable vacuum collection device
3. Agitation device including brushes, air whips, air compression, etc
When choosing an air duct cleaner please be careful to ask what kind of air duct cleaning collection device they are using. Also ask if they are using brushes, air whips, and air compression .

If their answer seems vague or you don’t clearly understand please feel free to call my cell 410-458-5371 ( Whole Maryland area)

How long should it take to have the air ducts cleaned?

Again following NADCA recommendations it should take an average of 4 to 6 hours for all the air duct cleaning work and air handling system (furnace) to be cleaned. From my practical experience this is true.

If you notice there are many advertisements for $69.00, $ 99.00 and $ 150.00 to have air ducts cleaned. If you take the NADCA’s labor hour guideline , it would be impossible for a company to charge those low prices and do quality work.

Most of these companies that charge low prices, either don’t follow NADCA guidelines or “sell” the customer additional services that:
• Should have been included in the beginning at the normal industry price ( $ 498.00 to $ 1,000 per household )
• Sell services that are not necessary for air duct cleaning
• Forget to mention to the client that the supply ducts were not included in the low special price.

What is the normal price for a residential home to perform air duct cleaning and air handling systems?

People ask this question all the time. We agree with NADCA that states that on average depending on the size of the home, the price ranges from $ 495.00 to $ 1,000 for air duct cleaning.
Sometimes some homes are less or more due to size.

If you would like to exactly for your home please call our offices at 1-800-356-0484.

How do I choose the right company?

With most services, there is always a slight risk whether you get “ ripped off” or not. Even if the company was referred to you by friend or realtive, there is still the possibility of being “ taken”.

If you want to have a more secure feeling of which air duct cleaning company to use make sure they are NADCA approved and have a ACS technicians.

If the NADCA company you choose does in fact “ take you for ride”, you can easily report the company to NADCA. NADCA will take immediate action to get the company to solve the complaint.

So how do I choose the right company?

I have to tell you this is my favorite issue with air duct cleaning. Unlike painting, carpet cleaning, electrical and other trades, you can’t see the finish product with
air duct cleaning.

Well actually that’s not true. You should request before the company comes out that they bring along a flash light and angles mirrors.

These two simple tools can give you a great view of inside the duct work. Now there is no guess work. If it looks clean they did a great job, if not have them do it again or don’t pay and go to the next company.

Why can't I use the air duct cleaning companies that advertise for $ 69.00, $ 99.00,$ 150.00, or even $ 250.00

Air duct cleaning residential services can be a confusing service to hire. You will see many price choices ranging from $ 99.00 to $ 1,000 to clean air ducts in a whole house. What‘s the difference between $99.00 and $ 1,000 for air duct cleaning?
What’s the difference between the methods they use?
How do I know if the company I hire will do the job right?

Please read below and SI Restoration 1-800-356-0484 will educate you on the air duct cleaning industry. Let’s learn how to make the best choice when choosing who you will hire to clean your air duct cleaning system and how much you will pay for it
Why is the $99.00 or fewer prices for cleaning air ducts too good to be true?
According to most qualified air ducts cleaners and the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) www.nadca.org , it takes a qualified and trained technician 4-6 hours to correctly clean all the ducts in your house.
Most qualified technicians are paid $ 10.00 to $ 20.00 an hour ( especially if they are NADCA ACS certified) to clean air ducts. If you do the math that ‘s about what you paid ( $ 99.00 ) to have your duct cleaned.
Remember that the company you hired has to:
1. Make a profit
2. Pay for expenses such as rent, gas electric, etc.
3. The equipment they use and the truck they came in costs them.
So as you can see there must be something suspicious when a company charges $ 99.00.
