When to Check and Maintenance Your Smoke Alarm & Batteries:
Take advantage of time in your home and stay safe by changing the batteries in your smoke alarms. This should be done every time there is a daylight savings time change (or twice a year). Schedule these two battery changes by writing them in your calendar and or by setting an alert on your phone calendar to change the batteries in your smoke alarm every 6 months. Schedule the change for when you have more free time (ex: the weekend) to make sure that other tasks do not get in the way.
How to Change the Batteries in Your Smoke Alarm:
- Step One: Slide back the battery cover & take out the older batteries
- Step Two: Immediately dispose of the old batteries in the trash, (do not allow the opportunity for accidently placing the old batteries back in the smoke alarm!)
- Step Three: Place the new batteries into the smoke alarm, making sure that the + and – signs of the batteries match the direction of the + and – signs inside of the smoke alarm
How to Test the Batteries in Your Smoke Alarm:
- Step One: Locate the alarm test button on the front or side of the smoke alarm
- Step Two: Press and hold in the test button until the alarm sounds, if it sounds you are finished and you can skip step three
- Step Three: If the alarm does not sound then replace the new batteries with working batteries and repeat the process until the alarm sounds
