Where to Find Mold

1. Kitchen

Here are places and items in kitchens that can develop moisture issues which can lead to mold growth:

  • Dishwasher: A small leak from your dishwasher can cause mold if you do not periodically check under and around your dishwasher for water leaks. Check under and around your dishwasher periodically to make sure that it is leak free and dry!
  • Refrigerator: A small leak from your refrigerator can cause mold without you knowing, causing mold to grow. Check under and around your dishwasher periodically to make sure that it is leak free and dry!
  • Sponge or soap dish: You use your sponge and or soap to wash dishes every day, but when you put your sponge or soap back in its dish moisture may begin to collect and mold can form. 2. Laundry Room

Here are places in laundry rooms that have potential for moisture issues which which can lead to mold growth:

  • Washing machine: Consistently check under and around your washing machine for water leaks to avoid mold growth. Check the door of the washing machine and inside the gasket for mold. Make sure to wipe under the door gasket after each wash to prevent mold growth. Dark, warm, moist areas are ideal for mold growth. Also leave the door open to air-out the washing machine to help dry the inside faster after using it.
  • Laundry room sink: Just like your kitchen sink, a small pipe leak under your laundry room sink may go unnoticed and cause mold if not dried quickly. Leaks combined with dark spaces are the perfect environment for mold growth. Check under your sink periodically to make sure that it is leak free and dry!

3. Bathroom

Here are places and items in bathrooms that have moisture issues which can lead to mold growth:

  • Shower or tub: Your shower or tub can leak and breed mold out of sight and without your knowledge if you do not check potential leak areas periodically.
  • Bathroom sink: Just like your kitchen sink, a small pipe leak under your bathroom room sink may go unnoticed and cause mold if not dried quickly. You may forget to pick these products up and clean them on occasion but it is important that you do so to avoid a build up of mold.
  • Bath toys: Bath toys may be fun for kids, but they may also be housing mold. Water may get inside the toys and be unable to get out. This is a difficult location to discover mold.
